What it's like to own a fully restored 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 XL | Throdle - 62 Ford Galaxie 500 Xl
You can't beat the Ford classic cars from the 60s. Back in the day this 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 XL 406 could do a quarter mile in 12.9 seconds! Join Nadine as she meets with Throdle app member, Norman @DonVito as he tells us about his days dragging on the US 30 Drag Strip in Gary Indiana and what it's like owning and restoring a classic car. This car comes with a lot of history and as you can probably guess, Norman's had a lot of work done on it. When he bought it the car was a complete basketcase and he had to take it down to bare metal. Norman takes us through his new paint job that matches the original color, the completely rebuilt V8 engine with multiple carburetors that runs on progressive linkage which he then revs for us all to hear. and other tuning like a better camshaft, larger valves and a new tune, resulting in a horsepower of 515. Pretty good tune, huh. Norman named his car "Red Baron" after his drag racing days, when he and his friends would accelerate quickly from stop lights until they hit the speed limit calling it "Stop Light Grand Prix" This car holds a lot of sentimental value to Norman, this model was the very first car that he owned, but he later traded in his 450 horsepower beast for an underpowered Dodge Dart with 101 horsepower after meeting his wife. Regretting that decision, he traded the Dart for another Ford Galaxie, but it wasn't a 1962. So when the chance arrived to finally get another 1962 model, he snatched it. He missed his muscle cars from the 60s!
